Everything that makes us ponder our sanity, waistline and pocket book are crammed into the paintings of Lou Haney. As an assistant professor of art at Ole Miss, Lou Haney, paints our guilty pleasures and the tacky streak that inevitable runs in every person through larger than life manifestations. I mean, that jellied meat loaf complete with decorative pimento olives and boiled eggs is about the size of my thigh….

Bright colors and pattern compete with the over the top nature of our materialistic life. The Jungle room sits in glorious comfort next to life size gummy animals. Haney’s art gracefully walks the difficult line by being realistic but by also maintaining a painterly quality. Come and drool over these sticky, sweet paintings at Lou Haney’s opening reception on Thursday the 13th from 6-8pm in the Eichold Gallery at Spring Hill College. Gallery talk with the queen of L.A. ( lower Alabama) Lou Haney at 7pm. Light refreshments and wine will be served.
